Miguel Faus

"How I Made the First Movie Ever Funded by NFTs"

Summary

As a young filmmaker, I dreamt of making my first feature film but found nothing but rejection from traditional financing institutions. Instead of giving up, I found a new way forward through NFTs. By releasing still frames from the original short film as a collection of NFTs, I raised over €700k from 650+ backers worldwide. In just a few months, we were filming in Spain. The movie's success, reaching #1 on Netflix Spain, proves the power of decentralized networks to turn creative dreams into reality.

Biography

Miguel Faus is a film director and producer from Barcelona. His debut feature “Calladita“ is the first movie ever funded by NFTs, after an innovative crowdfund led by Faus himself. “Calladita” is presented by Steven Soderbergh, who awarded it a post-production grant, and it is now available on Netflix Spain after screening at many international festivals and having a theatrical run in Spain. It is based on Faus’ 2020 short film of the same title, which had an outstanding festival run and was acquired by HBO. His previous short, “The Death of Don Quixote”, won the Melies d’Argent for Best European Short Film in Sitges 2018.
